How to build a weekly revision timetable

Plan short, focused study sessions with time for corrections, repeat practice and rest.

Start with the time you actually have

Write down school, homework, tuition and other commitments before adding revision. Protect time for meals, sleep and breaks. A plan you can follow is more useful than a full calendar that leaves no room for a difficult day.

Choose a small number of available study slots. Start with a manageable session, such as 25 minutes, and adjust it to your age, concentration and workload. Longer tasks can be split across sessions.

Turn topics into clear tasks

Replace “revise Maths” with an action you can finish: “attempt five linear-equation questions and explain any errors”. Use recent classwork, teacher feedback and your mistake log to choose the task.

  1. List the topics you have already learnt and need to revisit.
  2. Choose one or two priorities for this week.
  3. Assign a specific task to each study slot.
  4. Leave a later slot to retry difficult questions without the solution.

Check that your materials match what your teacher is covering. Avoid filling the week with new questions while leaving corrections unfinished.

An example week

This is a starting point, not a required study schedule. Adapt the subjects and workload to your own needs.

Keep an unallocated slot if your week allows it. Use it for unfinished work or rest rather than automatically adding more tasks.

Review the plan once a week

Ask what you completed, what you can now explain and where you still need help. If a task took much longer than expected, reduce the next task or split it into smaller steps. Missing one session does not mean you need to squeeze every missed task into the next evening.

For a topic you still cannot start independently, bring your attempted working to your teacher or tutor. Make the next session about understanding that gap before attempting a larger set.
